The Church House Inn in Buglawton, Congleton, is one of Robinsons Brewery's premiere public houses. It is a sister pub to the Bleeding Wolf and the Legs O Man. These three pubs all had thatched roofs originally, but only the Bleeding Wolf still has one. The Church House has suffered from the roof setting on fire, the last time in 1950. Look at the old picture above showing the fire service in attendance, the roof smoldering and firemen on the roof. Since then it has had a roof of standard construction. The garage is the only part of the original buildings to retain its thatched roof, and gives an idea of how the main building would have looked. It can just be seen to the left of the main picture and on the firemans left in the picture above. The menu is predominately home cooked food and includes a good vegetarian choice, light and main meals, and a slimmers selection. Buffets for small parties, including christening and funerals, can be provided. A pre-order menu is available for special needa and those with limited time. Our traditional Sunday roast lunch is very popular and is available in three sizes, including a mega-roast for anyone with a large appetite. During the summer, many visitors enjoying a narrow boat holiday drop in from the nearby canal for fine food and a pint of Graham's best bitter. Ramblers often use the Church House as a starting point, and finish up with a drink and a meal. The pub has a large childrens play area, including a pets corner, and a separate toddlers area where parents can supervise their kids in safety. There is also an area inside the pub where younger children are allowed. For bigger "kids" Graham built a 9 hole putting green, which has proved immensely popular amongst the regulars - there is even a house champion! It is well known that Robinsons bitter, being a real ale, has to be 'kept right' - Graham goes to great lenghts to ensure that the beer is always on top form, and this is why people agree that the beer in the Church House is as good as it gets! Some of the local companies use one of our rooms, on a regular basis, for business meetings. The room will hold approximately twelve people, see the picture above on the left. Tea and coffe-making facilities are provided, along with flip-chart, tv and video. Local clubs hold regular meetings here, including the Cheshire Ducati Club, the Wyche Classic Motorbike Club, Pigeon Club and the Beartown Classic Car Club. In addition, the pub has its own darts, crib and domino's teams, and two pool teams.
