Birmingham Dogs Home was founded in 1892, by the late Sir Alfred Gooch Bart. We are a registered charity and for over 100 years it has been our mission to rescue, reunite and rehome stray, neglected and unwanted dogs from all over the West Midlands. In 2000 we acquired a run-down site in Coven, Wolverhampton and transformed it into a state of the art stray dogs home named Sunnyside Kennels. The kennels can house 100 stray dogs all of which are in first class accommodation, with a veterinary consulting room and an isolation unit for those dogs requiring special one to one care.
The public are free to walk around our homes to view the dogs in our care. Not all dogs are available for rehoming as some are stray dogs due to be claimed by their owners, whilst others are under assessment by our staff for either medical or behavioural concerns. Birmingham Dogs Home will not rehome any dog that we know has bitten or is perceived to be a danger to staff or public alike.
Once you have spent time with one of our dogs and are satisfied that you would like to offer the dog a home, our rehoming staff will take you through the stages required to complete the process. No pressure is placed on anyone to offer a dog a home, and anyone considering this option must take as much time as necessary before deciding to reserve a dog in our care.
